CanSyL, Cancer Systems Biology Research Lab., Graduate School of Informatics, METU, Ankara, Turkey.
Dr. Rengul Cetin-Atalay holds an MD degree and the PhD degree in Systems Biology and her research falls in the broad fields of cellular pathway analysis, protein bioinformatics, and biomedical-imaging. She has published extensively in the field of medicinal chemistry for the identification of small bioactive compounds acting on epithelial cells. She has been part of a European network for small molecule bioactivity characterization and international collaborations since her PhD at Univ Paris XI.  During the last decade, she extended her studies on in silico discovery of novel therapeutic agents by the application of artificial intelligence and computational techniques on protein-small molecule target identification in close collaboration with UniProt group from European Bioinformatics Institute, Cambridge. She worked as a research assistant at Ecole Polytechnique, Paris, France during her PhD (1992-1997), and as an assistant professor at Virginia Bioinformatics Institute, Virginia Tech, during her sabbatical leave in 2004. She is the recipient of several awards including Turkish Academy of Sciences Young Investigator Award (2002), UICC International Cancer Technology Transfer Award (2008), and Sanovel Pharmaceuticals Inc, Drug Research Award (2013), AASLD Foundation 2019 The liver Meeting AASLDF Award. She is a member of ISCB (International Society for Computational Biology), AACR (American Association of Cancer Research), AASLD (American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases), TMBA (Turkish Molecular Biology Association), EACR (European Association for Cancer Research), and EASL (European Association for the Study of the Liver).
